What are the Common Shapes of Diamonds?

What are the Common Shapes of Diamonds? Many jewelry stores offer a rich variety of jewels that have diamonds of different shapes and of different prices embedded in them. In the process of buying diamond jewelry it is important to understand what is a qualitative diamond? and what are its characteristics?. The four characteristics that dramatically influence the quality and the price of the diamond are the four Cs. However, the shape of the diamond also influences the diamond’s appearance and its reflection of light. The shape of the diamond also influences the price of the diamond jewel and the price of the diamond itself. Therefore, I will elaborate here about the common shapes of diamonds and about choosing a diamond that will suit your preferences in exchange for a fair price. After the mining of the diamond, it arrives to the diamond polishers in a raw and non-organized form. Usually, the polishing of the diamond into its final form is decided according to its raw shape, according to the characteristics of the diamond, and in rare occasions, it is decided according to the desire of the one who purchased the diamond even before it was polished. The Most Common Shape of a Diamond- the Round-Shaped Diamonds  About 85% of all of the diamonds that are sold to customers are round shaped diamonds. This round shape is also called a brilliant cut, and it is achieved by 57 or 58 cuts that create in the diamond tiny facets, which give the diamond a rounded shape that reflects the light through typical sparkles. Averagely, the brilliant cut diamonds are about 30% more expensive than diamonds that are cut in other ways because relatively large portions of the raw stone are lost in the polishing process. Other Common ShapesPrincess- Here we cut the diamond into a shape of a square that allows us to use the raw material that has a crystal shape. The price of this diamond is cheaper compared to the round-shaped diamond. An Oval Diamond – This elliptic shape has 56 polishes and an elongated shape that suits people with long fingers. The perfect proportions between the length and the width of the diamond are 1.4-1.5, because in such a ratio between the length and the width the sparkling and the reflection of the light are optimal.A Drop (or a Pear) – this is a popular way to cut the diamond when it comes to diamond earrings because it gives the diamond a distinctive and luxurious look.Emerald- Here the diamond is polished in a unique technique that is called “stairs”, which gives the diamond a very transparent look. However, this method of polishing hurts the unique shine of the diamond because the light isn’t reflected by dozens of facets, as it is in others ways of polishing. There are many other shapes of a diamond such as radiant, a cushion, a heart, marquise asscher cut and etc. How do you choose a diamond? As we mentioned above, the cutting of the diamond is only one variable that influences its quality and its price. When you choose a diamond jewel, it is important to choose the one that is exactly according to your taste (because diamonds are forever….). However, it is also recommended to pay a fair price for the diamond you chose. A qualitative gemological certificate and trustworthy professionals will allow you to fairly price the diamond and they will present the unique qualities of every diamond before you.

Interesting Facts About The Diamonds

This upcoming Valentine’s Day, we decided to celebrate the shining diamonds and the glittering gems by gathering a few interesting facts about their source and their history. The ancient Greeks believed that diamonds are the tears of the gods, and the Romans believed that cupid’s arrows are similar to diamonds. This is perhaps the earliest connection between diamonds and love.In fact, diamonds are billions of years old. Diamonds were created tens of kilometers under the ground, and they rose to the surface as a result of deep volcanic eruptions.Almost 100% of a diamond is carbon. Diamonds are created due to the connections between carbon atoms, which occur under planet earth’s surface because of the enormous heat and pressure over there. These connections between the carbon atoms result in the beautiful crystal structure of diamonds. The word diamond derives from the Greek word for invincible or indestructible.Diamonds are the hardest natural substance, and the only thing that can scratch a diamond is another diamond.Diamonds have been appreciated for thousands of years, as it is proven by the evidence that they were gathered and sold in India way back in the 4th century B.C.In addition, there is a quote of Pliny the Elder, who said in the first century A.C. that“The diamond is the most precious thing, not just amongst the gems, but also amongst all of the things in this world”.  The ancient Hindus used diamonds as the eyes of their religious sculptures, and they believed that a diamond can protect who wears it from danger. In many ancient cultures, there was a belief that if you wear a diamond on your clothes during battle, then your clothes will receive strength, and in fact a few ancient kings wore diamonds on their armor when they went to war.Throughout history, the main sources of diamonds have changed. For example, India was at first the main source for diamonds and its diamonds were sold in Venice and in other trade centers across Europe. In the year 1700 the supply of diamonds from India decreased, and Brazil became the main source in the world for diamonds until the end of the 19th century, when a huge reservoir of diamonds was discovered in South Africa.Today, diamonds come from many places in the world, such as the diamond mines that are in Canada, Botswana, Namibia and Russia. Credits to the Privet Diamond ClubThe largest diamond that was ever discovered was a diamond that weighed 3,106 carat and it was called the Cullinan Diamond. This Diamond was discovered in a South African diamond mine in the year 1905. The owners of the mine gave the diamond to King Edward the VII. The Cullinan Diamond was cut into nine large diamonds and into 100 smaller diamonds. The first known use of a diamond engagement ring was in the year 1477, when the Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave Mary of Burgundy a gold ring that in it the letter “M” is embedded with diamonds.Diamonds that are created in the laboratory have the same chemical structure and physical traits as diamonds that were mined from the ground. Even professional gemologists can’t distinguish between laboratory diamonds and real diamonds without a comprehensive examination with special equipment.Although diamonds give joy to those who receive them, they also brought a lot of suffering to people in countries in Africa, where there are diamond mines. Therefore, there are people who prefer to purchase handmade diamonds.

Are synthetic diamonds about to be supervised?

Will the diamond exchanges start supervising over diamonds that were produced in laboratories? In the recent years, the market of manmade diamonds has risen, and according to the estimations, millions of carats of manmade diamonds are now sold every year. All of this is only an estimation, because many of those who manufacture diamonds in the laboratories want to conceal the true numbers of their production, and there are those who claim that substantial amounts of jewelry in India are embedded with diamonds that were produced in the laboratory.A senior figure in the diamond industry said that “I assume that no one will check these little stones. Although they are cheap, they are shinier than natural diamonds that cost the same”.There are only two diamond exchanges that can lead such a process of supervision, and they are the Indian diamond exchange in Mumbai and the Israeli diamond exchange.Due to reports that diamonds that are produced in the laboratory are being mixed in unknown proportions with natural diamonds, the Indian diamond exchange has prohibited the sale of synthetic diamonds and the Israeli diamond exchange decided that although this trade is permitted in the private offices of its members, it will be forbidden in its trading hall. The International Diamond Council (IDC) was established in 1975 in order to provide for its founders the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) – customary standards for polished diamonds that will be used in the diamond industry around the world.Ernie Blom, the president of the WFDB said that an ISO standard defines diamonds as something that was naturally created. This standard always implies that a diamond can’t be manmade, and its importance is in the fact that it determines what can be a true diamond. The need for transparency is in order to guarantee that the consumers will be able to fully trust the diamond suppliers. As for synthetic diamonds, which is a critical topic in the diamond industry, it should be mentioned, that the diamonds that are produced in a laboratory are from the same chemical substance like natural diamonds, and therefore it is important for the consumers to know exactly what is the type of diamonds that is offered to them?.Ernie Blom explained that the first steps in enacting a new ISO standard have started seven years ago in Europe, and the WFDB has a strong desire together with stakeholders in the industry like the World Jewel Confederation (CIBJO) to enact this standard. The main issue that influences the diamond industry is the terminology, which allows the manufacturers of synthetic diamonds to use the term “cultivated” for their product of synthetic diamonds. The diamond industry of America assumes that even though the term “cultivated” is grammatically correct, by using this term we confuse the consumers who believe that a “cultivated diamond” implies that it is a natural one. While the retailers, suppliers and jewelers tend to use synthetic diamonds in growing proportions, the need for a full and appropriate candidness is a critical component in defending the consumer trust.I reemphasize that the use of the word “cultivated” in regards to manmade diamonds is misleading because it implies that synthetic diamonds are created in a natural environment like natural pearls. The suppliers can also use the word “cultivated” in order to describe a synthetic diamond only if it is used in the course of one of the following authorized terms such as a “cultivated diamond that grew in a lab”, “a cultivated diamond that was manufactured” or “a cultivated synthetic diamond”.The synthetic diamonds are still a small part of the market, but this portion is continuing to grow, and this matter must be dealt with by all of the international diamond organizations.

The Constellation Was Brought To Israel

In the year 2016, the company Nemesis International purchased a massive diamond named “Constellation” that weighs 813 carat. Nemesis International purchased this diamond together with the Swiss jewel company De Grisogono in exchange for 63.1 million USD (which amounts to about 77.613 carat per carat). The first polishing factory that was established in the United Arab Emirates was supposed to polish this diamond, which is most expensive raw diamond in the world. However, it was revealed only recently, that this diamond was brought to Israel in order to be polished by an advanced laser at the Israel Diamond Exchange. At the Israel Diamond Exchange there is an advanced facility for polishing by laser (Microjet), which belongs to the company Synova. This facility allows us to polish diamonds at the outmost accuracy, and while wasting only a minimum amount of their raw material.  The advanced laser device reduces the damage that is caused while cutting the expensive raw material and it is technologically the most advanced device in the world. This device is operated by a team of Israeli experts.According to the estimations, the raw diamond that weighs 813 carat will be polished into two polished diamonds that one of them will weigh 325 carat and the other will weigh 100 carat. The color of these two polished diamonds will be D and they will belong to a level of clarity that is flawless, as its name (Flawless) attests so.The diamond that will weigh 325 carat will be one of the largest flawless diamonds in the world.Bringing this diamond to Israel emphasizes Israel’s role as the capital of technology of the diamond industry.Image courtesy of Lucar Diamond

Lab grown diamonds today, where will they be tomorrow ?

What are laboratory diamonds?Laboratory growth diamonds, which are also called synthetic diamonds, are diamonds that are not found in nature, but are specifically produced in a laboratory. In the laboratory, we reconstruct the conditions that natural diamonds are produced in. These conditions of the area include a pressure and high temperatures. This way, instead of waiting millions of year, you can produce diamonds in a rapid and controlled manner. Are lab grown diamonds and natural diamonds the same?I believe that a stone that originates from the ground and a stone that was created in a laboratory are two different stones. A natural diamond is a gem that originates from the depth of the ground, where it was created in a process that takes millions of years. There are no two natural diamonds that are the same, and therefore they are so priceless. Laboratory diamonds are created by technological measures within a number of days, and in the future they will be produced in large quantities. Therefore their price may decline in the coming years. Throughout all of the years, not only have the natural diamonds maintained their value, because of their value, their price rose, and therefore a secondary market, which allows people who purchased a real diamond to resell the diamond and receive cash in exchange for it Arose. I still have not heard of a store that will agree to buy back a lab grown diamond after the client left the store. Is it true what is published in the internet, that lab grown diamonds cheaper by 30 to 40 perceptions from real diamonds? According to the marketers, the price of the synthetic diamonds is lower by 30 to 40 percent from the price of the real ones. The companies that produce and sell the lab grown diamonds mislead the public in regards to their price. In order to check the price you need to compare between two completely identical products, and I did so when I entered Leahy two websites, one called Miadonna and the second is called Diamond Foundry, and then I compared the lab grown diamonds that these two websites Offer, to identical diamonds that are offered in a known website called Blue Nile, which sells real diamonds certified by the GIA.Here are the results: For a round stone of 1.1 carats G VS1, I found that the lab grown diamond is only 2% cheaper than the real diamond. For a Princess cut stone of 1.07 carats G VS2 the lab grown diamond was 3.3% only cheaper than the natural diamond.I re-evaluate that the producers are grading their synthetic stones with much more generous than the real diamondscertified by the GIA.The meaning of that is that a lab grown diamond that offered for sale as G VS2 is in most of the time H SI1, and its fiscal value is lower. How can a client who wants to purchase a natural diamond protect himself from buying a diamond that was produced in a laboratory? As for small stones below 20 points, there is a concern that dishonest suppliers will mix real diamonds with laboratory stones. Although there are today devices that can distinguish between laboratory diamonds and natural diamonds, these devices are still expensive and they are not available in every store. As for larger stones, you need to ask from the seller for a gemological certificate from a renamed plan like the GIA, which explicitly mentions if the diamond is a natural one. In conclussionThe natural diamond is a spectacular creation of nature. Every natural diamond will always be unique and exclusive- what makes it loved and appreciated by women who wear gold jewelry that natural diamonds are set in it. The lab grows diamonds are evidence to a technological advancement, but they do not have the monetary value for the coming years. Therefore, if you are planning to purchase a diamond and you are looking for the full value for your money, then natural diamonds are a better choice than handmade diamonds.

White diamonds are still the girl’s best friend

They call it “the awards season” for a good reason. The Oscars is just main event of long list of events showcasing various current affairs in the world of fashion, celebrity, culture and more. Long story short, during the awards season one can see what’s “hot” and what’s “not”. In order to honor this special time of year 2017, Gemfields hosted a special cocktail party in Los Angeles. And although it was February, everything was shining bright, just the way diamonds should. Moti Israeli Diamonds presents short review of the event and its highlights. White and colored diamonds and the Israeli Diamond ExchangeOne of the most essential topics on the table of the jewelries business it’s what is the most essential component of the luxury piece? Is it the white diamonds, or the colored? Needless to say, that buying diamonds in Israel is nothing out of the ordinary for the designers of the best jewelry all around the world – and especially in Hollywood (considering that everyone is aware of the secret that a group of Jewish powerful men are in charge of everything). Hence, one may assume that there are plenty of gems from the Israel Diamond Exchange circulating in California these days. And the white ones are shining brighter than ever nowadays. Colored diamonds from Israel are also being highly regarded, so it’s a matter of class and perspective mostly, not just popularity. So, what is the bottom line?During the special event hosted by the Gemfields brand in Hollywood, one could see the variety offered by the market. First, the Gemfields Company is a miner, marketer and distributor of emeralds, rubies and amethysts so the inclination is naturally towards colored gems. However, during the occasions we all may see a few kinds of diamonds. For example, the starlet model and host Louise Roe was wearing rubies and emeralds on different occasions. The choice of colored diamonds is usually made according to the outfit, while red and green diamonds are complimenting illuminating outfits, acting as splashes of color on relatively plain colors, or as a total match of the outfit. When white diamonds are girls’ best friends? We may have seen plenty of white diamonds in this awards season. The fit perfectly the black and white outfit, complimenting fierce make-up (diamonds and red lipstick – it doesn’t get any hotter). We may see all colors, all textures and patterns in clothes, jewelry and make-up. However, as time showed us time after time, as well as the work of designers creating masterpieces with diamond jewelries in Israel – the white diamonds are never going to fade away.
