Eight-Carat Diamond Has Been Smashed

At the University of Melbourne,  eight carat diamond has been smashed to smithereens in a purpose to discover the secrets of its origin  Professor David Phillips, Head of the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, recently took a hammer to the diamond to extract two rare, emerald-colored inclusions. The inclusions are made of a green mineral called clinopyroxenitic, which contains small amounts of radioactive potassium. This makes it possible to date when the diamonds erupted out of a volcano, after they were formed inside. Knowing this makes it easier to hunt down the original source and the all-important ‘mother lode’ of diamonds. This diamond was worth $7000 uncut and was found in a South African riverbed by exploration company Namakwa Diamonds. Recently, Professor Phillips and a University of Melbourne team successfully dated clinopyroxenitic inclusions in diamonds from the Namibian coast . He had never broken a diamond of this size before and admitted that the chance of inclusion recovery was “about 50/50”. However, the ‘delicate’ process of hammering the diamonds into pieces was a success. Professor Phillips has since sent the inclusions to be irradiated at the Oregon State University nuclear reactor, which will then return the inclusions to the University of Melbourne to be dated in the Earth Science’s state-of-the-art spectrometer. Results are expected early next year. Basel World Show 2015

Basel world is one of the biggest and most important shows for the jewelry, watch and diamond industry.Visitors got an overview of what the industry has to offer. One can always find new collections, new creations and new innovations at the exhibit. The history of the show is that it started almost 100 years ago. The first opening presented the Schweitzer Muster Messe Basel with sections of watches and jewelry. Only in 1972 were companies from Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom also invited. In 1986, companies from outside Europe were invited for the first time; this of course was reflected in the number of visitors from outside Europe. Above 1,500 companies and 150,000 visitors from the industry participated in the Basel World show this year (2015). They learnt what would set the trends for this year. The show took place from 19-26 March at the big Swiss exhibition center. In interviews, many exhibitors said that the show has been a positive one even though they felt that there were fewer visitors than last year. When taking a deeper look with various industry sectors, I found that the loose Diamonds exhibitors felt as though clients were more interested in fancy color stones or even preferred buying semiprecious stones, since they are cheaper. Upon entering the loose precious stone booths, I overheard them say that finished jewelry is what shop owners are looking for. To me it seems that the old saying “the green grass is always greener on the other side” best suits most of the exhibitors in the big Basel world show. Basel show goes beyond the world jewelry brands as it also is a leading event for diamonds and gemstones, both of which you could see a lot of in fancy colors at every booth and show cases.Basel World is the only show that unites key players from all sectors around the world, in addition to jewelry, diamonds, gemstones and watches, as well as machines and tools from the diamond industry. What makes the Basel show so exceptional among the many shows around the world? The reason is, that it is the only show that unites everyone from the smallest to the largest brands, representing all sectors of the industry.

Among the many Israeli exhibitors was Moti Israeli Diamonds, a diamond wholesaler and manufacturer offering GIA certified diamonds at wholesale prices. The Importance of International Diamond Week Diamond manufacturers go to exhibitions around the world with their merchandise in order to find new customers. Doing this, however, incurs very large expenses and is not always profitable. International Diamond Week is an initiative that started with the aim of strengthening the diamond industry while supporting diamond manufacturers and traders by helping them significantly reduce expenses. The event is held at the Trading Hall of the IDE, the largest diamond bourse in the world with over 3500 members and is completely funded and promoted by the IDE and various sponsors such as insurance companies, shipping companies, and other related service providers. In the past year, weak demand and thin profit margins has significantly influenced the global market for polished diamonds. Two of the three largest markets in the world, China, and India, have shown a decline in demand, leaving only the United States with a steady demand since Q4 of 2014. Speakers at the opening ceremony of International Diamond Week stressed numerous times the importance of bringing profitability back to the diamond trade. Ambassador Dan Shapiro praised the Israeli industry, stating that it played a pioneering role in the diamond trade and adding that “the global economic crisis has affected all industries in most countries around the world, but we are pulling through. This year should be a comeback year for the global economy and for the diamond industry.” Highlights of International Diamond Week The second day, February 9, featured a special exhibition called “DiamTech”, showcasing the latest advancements in diamond-related technologies. The exhibition featured an announcement by IDE president Shmuel Schnitzer, and Professor Eduard Yakubov, President of the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) that the IDE and HIT will cooperate on a number of projects. On the fourth day, Wednesday February 11, Leibish Polnauer of Leibish & Co. lectured on the world of colored diamonds in the Cullinan restaurant in the diamond exchange. Leibish discussed the increased popularity and market prices of colored diamonds, the advantages of trading in them, and the benefits of online diamond trading. Another highlight of the week included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the IDE and Alrosa, a Russian diamond company. The MoU is aimed at developing the diamond industry in both countries and promoting diamond businesses in international markets. The fifth International Diamond Week is expected to take place in August 2015.

5 Things You Should Know About 2 Carat Loose Diamond

Diamonds come in all shapes and sizes, with some being more popular than others. Here are five things you should know about 2-carat diamonds before you start diamond shopping online: 1. How big is a 2 carat loose diamond?  A diamond’s carat is a measure of its weight but it does not reflect the diamond’s size. That means that a 2-carat diamond is not necessarily twice the size of a 1-carat diamond. A diamond’s size is usually the diameter of the diamond measured from the top, the visible part. The most common size for a round 2-carat diamond is 8.20 millimeters. 2. How common or rare are 2 carat loose diamond ? When mining for natural diamonds, a lot of dirt is mined in the process. In fact, tons of dirt are mined for each diamond that is found. Out of those diamonds, most are of poor quality and only 1 in 15 million diamonds that are found is 2-carat diamond of high quality. 3. Why are 2 carat loose diamonds a popular choice? 2-carat diamonds are very popular and even considered a favorite among diamond buyers because they are affordable and usually slightly larger than 1-carat diamonds. 4. What is the most popular shape for 2 carat loose diamond? The most popular shape for 2-carat diamonds is a round brilliant cut. In fact, the round brilliant cut is the most popular shape among all diamond sizes. Weighting at 400 milligrams and usually around 8 millimeters in diameter, this makes it ideal for fine jewelry such as earrings or delicate rings. 5. How much do 2 carat loose diamond? The price of a diamond takes into account many factors, with the carat weight being only one of many. Prices for 2 carat loose diamonds range between $1000 and $30,000 per carat, depending on color, clarity, cut, and market demand, to name a few. All of the information required to properly price a diamond is in the GIA certification that accompanies it. How Rare Are The Real Natural Diamonds

How rare are the diamonds? The jewelry industry advertises that diamonds are a rare mineral but no more so than the gold from which most expensive jewelry is made. I have been in the diamond industry for over 45 years and I think diamonds are truly a rare mineral. In this article, I want to focus on natural diamonds and not laboratory diamonds, which are also called synthetic diamonds. In 2020, 112 million carats of rough diamonds were mined, it sounds like a lot, but in order to understand the amount of diamonds that are set in jewelry, it is necessary to understand and calculate the amount of ornamental diamonds that are produced from them each year and what the future of diamond sales is. Well, in 2020, 112 million carats were mined, and when each gram is 5 carats, then in a quick calculation, 22.4 tons of rough diamonds were mined, If we compare this figure to the amount of gold that was produced that year, about 3000 tons, then you can see that in 2020, the world’s gold mines produced 130 times more gold than the diamond mines.About 85% of the rough diamonds produced are not of the quality of ornamental diamonds and are called industrial diamonds; They are used for the industries, while the gold produced from the mines is entirely suitable for the jewelry industry. Therefore, we were left with 15% decorative diamonds that can and should be polished in order to be suitable for setting in jewelry. A rough ornamental diamond loses about 50% of its weight during polishing, which turns into powder.Let’s go back to the year 2020 when 22.4 tons of rough diamonds were produced and only 15% of them are decorative diamonds or 3.36 tons that need to be polished and thus we were left after polishing and before sorting with 1.68 tons of diamonds, or if you want 8.4 million carats of diamonds. In polished inventory from origin, the average diamond size is about 0.18 carat. The average size of the diamonds set in an engagement ring as of this period is 0.30 carat, so in order to get this size we need to polish stones weighing at least 0.60 carat and in order to get a diamond weighing 1 carat we need to polish a diamond weighing 2 carat and so on. Now we can talk about the quality of the diamond,Many of the raw materials that are produced have black inclusions and internal defects that cannot be removed. weak colors are found in all of the diamonds produced. So regarding the future, the diamond producers say that half of the mines are going to be close in the next twenty years because there are no more diamonds in them. The cost of operating the mines is not economically viable and in their opinion, no new mines are expected to open. According to the producers, the stock of raw materials is about to be end in about 40 years and therefore natural diamonds will continue to be rare in the years to come.

How can you tell the difference between a real diamond and a fake one?

How can you tell the difference between a real diamond and a fake one? The diamond is the rarest mineral in nature and the most difficult to mine. The diamond’s prestigious status is not only the result of smart marketing moves, but a direct result of its prevalence in nature as well as the large investment involved in polishing it and hence its high price. Therefore, before purchasing a diamond-encrusted engagement ring or any other encrusted piece of jewelry, it is important to know that these are indeed real diamonds and not fake. It is important to say that when you buy diamond jewelry – engagement ring, wedding ring, diamond earrings, etc., the diamonds are already embedded in the jewelry and the diamond is the basis of the value of the jewelry and its price. Ways to identify a real diamond versus a fake: – One of the surest ways to verify that it is a real diamond is to obtain a gemological certificate from a licensed and recognized institute, such as IGL, HRD, GIA. The role of these institutes is to identify the stone and perform a professional evaluation. The certificate is a kind of professional reference for the authenticity of the diamond; its value is determined by its weight, color, degree of cleanliness and the shape of its cut.– There are additional tests that are carried out in the laboratory designed to examine the stone in combination with the experience of the professionals called gemologists and the use of estimates and special equipment such as – a magnifying glass with a ratio of 10 times which allows to identify the points, as well as a diamond microscope in the material. The cleaner the stone under the special magnifying glass, the higher the chance of counterfeiting.– Examining the lapel can also indicate the density of the stone – the density in a diamond is the highest that exists in nature, which makes the diamond the hardest material that does not break or scratch except when it comes in friction with another diamond. If there are scratches or damage on the stone, it is not a diamond.– Testing the weight of the stone – every material in nature has its specific weight. The specific gravity of the diamond is lower than most substances in nature. The diameter of a 0.50-carat diamond will be 5 mm while another stone of the same diameter will weigh significantly more The diamond jewelry of Israeli Diamonds. We note that all the jewelry produced by us is set with stones with a gemological certificate only. What should be considered when choosing a champagne diamond? The value of champagne diamonds varies based on several important criteria that define the value of the diamond, whether it is a colored diamond or a standard diamond.
